About this programme

Cosmetic Tattoo Fundamentals

The Cosmetic Tattoo Fundamentals course is the entry point into the Royal Academy medical cosmetic tattoo pathway. Over 4 days, you will build the theoretical grounding and supervised practical skills required to begin treating clients safely and confidently across the three primary zones: brows, lips, and eyeliner. The programme covers everything from colour theory and skin type analysis to needle selection, machine calibration, and client aftercare management. No prior cosmetic tattoo experience is required — prior experience in aesthetics or clinical practice is preferred.

Programme structure

Curriculum.

Day 1 — Theory, Safety & Colour Science

Full day

Skin anatomy, Fitzpatrick typing, contraindication review, regulatory requirements, sterilisation and cross-contamination protocols, and a deep-dive into pigment chemistry and colour theory.

Day 2 — Brow Fundamentals: Mapping & Technique

Full day

Golden ratio brow mapping, needle selection, machine settings, practice skin hairstrokes, and supervised practice on a volunteer model for foundational hairstroke brows.

Day 3 — Lips & Eyeliner Technique

Full day

Lip anatomy review, ombré blush technique on practice skin, eyeliner styles (lash enhancement to defined liner), supervised practice with live model.

Day 4 — Consolidation, Aftercare & Business Foundations

Full day

Review of practical assessments, healing process management, corrective and removal considerations, written assessment, business setup and marketing essentials for new practitioners.

Entry requirements

Prerequisites.

  • Background in aesthetics, nursing, beauty therapy, or tattooing preferred

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

  • Completion of enrolment form and pre-reading materials supplied on booking

Common questions.

No prior tattooing experience is required, but a background in aesthetics, beauty therapy, nursing, or body art is strongly preferred. The programme is designed to take you from theory to supervised practice within 4 days.

All equipment required for training days is provided. On graduation, we provide guidance on the recommended starter kit for your first solo practice sessions. Equipment is not included in the course investment.
