Lip anatomy, natural pigmentation, skin undertone, and your desired colour outcome are reviewed. A patch test is conducted and colour swatches reviewed to select the most flattering healed tone.
Lip contour design and symmetry assessment
The proposed lip contour is drawn and adjusted for symmetry and proportion. The balance between a defined contour and a diffused blush finish is discussed and agreed before any pigment is applied.
Topical numbing application
A strong topical numbing cream is applied to the lip area and allowed time to take effect fully. The lip area is more sensitive than brows and thorough numbing is prioritised for comfort.
Pigment application and blush diffusion
Soft pigment is applied using a diffusion technique that builds colour gradually from the lip contour inward, creating the characteristic blush effect. The procedure typically takes 90–120 minutes.
Aftercare and colour change guidance
Lip blush aftercare requires particular attention to avoiding food and drinks that stain, keeping the area dry, and applying lip balm as directed. The significant colour change during healing is explained in detail.
Colour refresh at 6–8 weeks
Lip pigment settles considerably during healing — sometimes appearing very light in patches. The colour refresh appointment assesses the healed result and builds up any areas needing more pigment.

Lip blush healing is the most dramatic-looking of all cosmetic tattoo healing processes. Lips will appear very bold, swollen, and dark for the first 3–5 days before shedding to a surprisingly light result. The true healed colour emerges at 6–8 weeks.
Lips will be swollen and significantly darker than the final result for days 1–4
Apply the provided healing balm regularly to keep lips moist during the peeling phase
Do not pick or peel the lips as they shed — allow the process to occur naturally
Avoid spicy food, lip contact with cups and cutlery where possible for the first week
The lips may appear very light or patchy after shedding — this is entirely normal
The true colour and evenness is confirmed at the 6–8 week colour refresh appointment

Yes, but antiviral medication is recommended prophylactically before and after the procedure to prevent a cold sore outbreak triggered by the treatment. Please advise the clinic at consultation if you have a history of cold sores.
Some swelling is normal for 24–48 hours after a lip blush procedure. It is usually manageable and subsides within a few days. Ice packs can be used gently to reduce swelling in the first 24 hours.
Yes, in most cases. However, lip filler should be fully settled (allow at least 4 weeks after any lip filler treatment) before a lip blush procedure is performed. Please advise the clinic of any filler history at consultation.
